Current Volunteer Opportunities
What to know prior to volunteering at Hoover:
Volunteer positions where you interact with children require a ICCSD background check. Once you complete a background check, you do not have to have another background check done the rest of the time your child is in the school.

Complete the form online by going to this link: https://www.iowacityschools.org/Page/151 Once you open the link to the online application, click the "Apply" button in the upper right hand corner to begin to fill out the volunteer application (the database used by the ICCSD is the same as the employment database, so you may see "Employment Application". You are in the correct place).
Operation Backpack
Fridays by 9:00am
Operation Backpack enables qualifying Hoover students to have much-needed food over the weekend. On the last day of the school week, eligible kids discretely receive a bag of nutritious food to bring home in their backpacks. Packaged food is provided by the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP). We rely on parents to provide fresh items every week to supplement the packaged items.
District Wide Parent Organization
Second Wednesday of the month, 11:45a-1:00p
We need advocates for Hoover students to attend each District Wide Parents Organization (DPO) to learn about what's going on in the district and report back at the next Hoover PTA meeting (or convey information to a board member to report). This is a great opportunity to see other schools across the district and learn about district initiatives. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month, September-May at 11:45-1:00, with a light lunch served starting at 11:30. Meeting locations rotate among schools within the district. Please sign up for as many slots as you'd like. We'd like at least two people per meeting.

Bring snacks for teachers to show support and appreciation throughout the school year. You will be contacted via email with specific information, dates available, quantities, etc. Contact Brenna Eldeen with questions (brenna.eldeen@gmail.com).

Attend PTA Meetings

Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:00pm in the media center.
